MICHAEL MOORE’S “SLACKER UPRISING”
TO PREMIERE AT MICHIGAN THEATER
OSCAR-WINNER AND MICHIGAN-NATIVE TO
DEBUT LATEST FILM IN ANN ARBOR
ANN ARBOR, MI (Sept. 14, 2008) -- Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore will be in Ann Arbor on Thursday, September 18 to debut his latest film “Slacker Uprising.” The event will take place in the historic, 1700-seat Michigan Theater and is being hosted by the Penny Stamps Distinguished Lecture Series.
Moore announced last week, in an unprecedented move, that the film would be released online for free as a gift to his fans on September 23. This will be the first major feature-length film by a noted director to debut for free via the internet and will be distributed by Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films.
On premiering the film in Ann Arbor, Moore stated: “The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor is a great location for the Slacker Uprising premiere. It was one of the landmark stops during the Slacker Uprising Tour and whenever I’m in town, Ann Arbor’s slackers come out of the woodwork and unite.”
"Slacker Uprising" traces Michael Moore’s 62-city tour of the swing states during the 2004 Presidential election and records the thrilling -- and frightening -- response he received across the country. It included a jam-packed and raucous event at the University of Michigan in October of 2004. Moore will now return to Ann Arbor for the film’s premiere.
The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 4:00 PM and free tickets will be distributed on a first come-first served basis.
